How remove-and-fit works
Old steel frames rust and wooden frames rot, but the opening in the wall is usually sound. Remove-and-fit replaces the frame and keeps the opening:
- Measure the existing openings.
- Make the new frames — and design them first if the opening needs it.
- Remove the old frames by cutting their fixings, with minimal impact on the brickwork.
- Fit and fix the new frames.
- Patch the plaster around the new frames.
The new frame goes into the same opening the old one came out of.
What is not included
Painting is not part of the job. Once the plaster is patched, the walls around the new frames are ready for your painter.
Tiles next to old frames
Where tiles were laid right up against an old frame, they can be damaged when that frame comes out. It depends on how the frame and the tiles were originally butted together, so it is worth pointing out any tiled sills or reveals when you ask for a quote.
Safety glass for low panes and doors
SANS 10400-N covers glazing, including safety glass in human-impact zones such as doors and low panes. If you are replacing a door or a window that comes down close to the floor, ask about it.
